Earlier this winter I wrote about my excitement upon being assigned to write about the legendary writer Jim Murray. I’m happy to say that the chapter on the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who wrote for The Los Angeles Times, Sports Illustrated, Time and other news outlets has been published. The piece also ran in Yahoo Sports’ The PostGame.
The chapter is part of an ongoing series called Still No Cheering in the Press Box, a follow-up to Jerome Holtzman’s book about the careers of legendary sports writers. The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism has spearheaded this project.
Thanks to George Solomon, director of the Povich Center, for the opportunity to write this chapter. And thanks as well to Linda McCoy-Murray, Bill Dwyre, TJ Simers, Dave Kindred, Roy Firestone and Ted Geltner for lending your thoughts.
